Detailed programm
Day 1: Mendoza:
You started in Europe the day before and flew towards Santiago de Chile and took the bus across the beautiful Andes towards Mendoza, where we will pick you up and bring you to your accommodation. there is a welcome lunch in Mendoza, where we have time to get to know each other. The late afternoon and evening are then free and a cool pool awaits you at our accommodation to cool off.
Day 2: Mendoza – bike bodega tour
After breakfast we drive to the famous wine region „Lujan de Cuyo“, where a great bike tour through the beautiful wine fields with two bodega visits awaits us, always accompanied by the white peaks of the Andes. We taste delicious, local wines and learn a lot about local wine growing and wine production. Between visits to the bodega, we fortify ourselves with a delicious lunch, naturally accompanied by the best wines from the region. At the end of the tour it goes back to the accommodation, where you can spend the rest of the day at the pool.
Day 3: Mendoza – city bike tour
After a leisurely breakfast, a transfer takes us to the center of Mendoza, where we can comfortably explore the city by bike. Mendoza is beautifully situated at the foot of the Andes and is one of the cultural strongholds of the country. The city is characterized by a mild climate and wine growing and offers numerous great places
and sights that we explore. The green lung of the city is the Parque General San Martin with a small lake, where we make a short stop. The evening is at leisure.
Day 4: Potrerillos – canopy & rafting
Today, everyone who loves extreme sports will get their money’s worth: After breakfast, we check out at the accommodation and drive to the dreamlike, turquoise clear reservoir of Potrerillos, where we have 6 different cables with a total length of 1400m over the reservoir with great views of ziplines. At lunchtime, we fortify ourselves with delicious Argentinian empanadas before the adventure program continues. In the afternoon there are 12km rafting on the raging Mendoza River with class 3 rapids – a cool refreshment in the summer temperatures around Mendoza. In the evening we end the adrenaline day with a dinner together and check in at the accommodation in Potrerillos.
Day 5: Potrerillos & Cacheuta – kayaks and thermal baths
After breakfast, a kayak tour on the Potrerillos reservoir is on the program. Enjoy the wonderful turquoise blue water and the surrounding Andean peaks from a different perspective. After a small lunch snack, you can relax in the afternoon in the natural thermal baths of Potrerillos, which are beautifully embedded in the surrounding Andean landscape. There are various stone pools inside and outside with different temperatures from 28 to 42 degrees, a mud bath, the only grotto sauna in Argentina and sun loungers – the perfect place to end the day right on the Rio Mendoza. The evening is at leisure.
Day 6: Cerro Negro (2,180m)
After all the extreme sports of the past few days, we are going to immigrate to the Cerro Negro. We can expect a beautiful hike through a great gorge up to 2,180m and with surprisingly diverse vegetation. On the way we have a little picnic and enjoy the view of the Central Andes. After the descent, our private chef Roberto is waiting for us with a delicious Argentinean BBQ, and we end the evening by the campfire before returning to the accommodation.
Day 7: Aconcagua Provincial Park – Confluencia (3,200 m)
We have a good breakfast and check out at the accommodation in Potrerillos and drive to the Aconcagua Provincial Park. At 6,962m, Aconcagua is the highest mountain in South America and even outside of Asia and annually attracts thousands of visitors who try to conquer the summit. Today we have a day hike through the rugged Andes to Camp Confluencia, the first base camp at Aconcagua. Since we spend the night in a multi-bed dome directly at Camp Confluencia, we only hike with a light daypack. On the way we already have incredible views of the bright white glacier hood of the Aconcagua and excellent photo opportunities.
Day 8: Aconcagua Provincial Park – Plaza Francia (4,300m)
After breakfast we hike to the lookout point „Plaza Francia“ at 4,300m, where we are rewarded with a fantastic view of the 900m south wall of Aconcagua, the largest rock face in the world. An unforgettable experience, which we enjoy in peace at a picnic. Then we descend to Camp Confluencia, where we spend another night in the multi-bed cathedral.
Day 9: Aconcagua Provincial Park – Valle de Uco (1,200m)
Breakfast, then descent to Horcones (2,950m), back to the park entrance, where the transfer to the „Valle de Uco“ wine region awaits us. On the way we make a short stop at the “Inka Bridge” natural monument, a stone natural bridge that stretches across the Rio Mendoza. Then we continue to the Mountaineers‘ Cemetery, dedicated to the mountaineers who died at Aconcagua. Here mountaineers usually hold a minute’s silence as an expression of remembrance before climbing. Afterwards we continue in Valle de Uco, where the world’s highest vineyards are located, right at the foot of the Andean Cordillera. A uniquely beautiful landscape, guarded by the 6,570m high Tupungato volcano and the majestic El Plata mountain range. We spend the night at the cozy Finca Ogawa, where delicious Argentinean pizzas are waiting for us in the evening.
Day 10: Valle de Uco (1,200m)
Breakfast and then free morning with the opportunity to chill comfortably at the in-house pool. At lunchtime we visit one of the best wineries in the region in the Valle de Uco, which has developed into a region for premium wines in Argentina, which makes the wineries here a lot more splendid than in other areas of the country. We taste first-class wines in an impressive setting and feast on a delicious 3-course menu. The evening is at leisure.
Day 11: Valle de Uco (1,200m)
Breakfast, day off with chilling by the pool and in the evening a cozy Christmas dinner.
Day 12: Andean crossing 1 – Yaretas (3,500m)
Breakfast, check-out, then transfer to Refugio Scaravelli with customs clearance at the gendarmerie in Refugio Portinaris. In the Refugio Scaravalli we fortify ourselves with a picnic, meet our Argentine mule drivers who will accompany us to the border for the next few days, strap our luggage onto the mules and then walk comfortably up to the first Camp Yaretas – at 3,500m and slowly get used to it the height. It goes through wonderfully beautiful and lonely Andean landscapes with wonderful views of the highest peaks of the longest mountain range in the world, with a bit of luck even condors and guanacos will accompany us on the way. In Yaretas we set up our first camp and then end the day with a dinner with the gauchos.
Day 13: Crossing the Andes 2 – Paso El Portillo (4,300m) – Real de la Cruz (2,860m)
Today is a long day and the first pass is waiting for us, so we leave immediately after an early breakfast. We hike up to 4,300m to Paso El Portillo. The steep climb is rewarded by breathtaking views of the surrounding 6000m mountains and glaciers. We fortify ourselves with a picnic and hike through a long, beautiful valley to the Refugio Real de La Cruz. For an additional charge, there is the possibility to use the toilets and showers in the refugio. In the evening our gauchos prepare a real Argentinian BBQ for us.
Day 14: crossing the Andes 3 – Caleton – (3.100m)
After breakfast we hike towards the Chilean border, through a wonderful, picturesque valley until we arrive at Camp Caleton. Here we set up the last camp on the Argentine side and spend the last evening with a dinner with our Argentinian gauchos.
Day 15: Andean crossing 4 – Paso Piuquenes (4,060m) – Termas del Plomo (2,900m)
Today is the 2nd pass crossing, so we set off after an early breakfast and hike up the Paso Piuquenes to 4,060m. We have finally arrived at the Argentine-Chilean border and celebrate this great moment together with our Argentinian and Chilean mule drivers, who all come here for a delicious picnic with wine. Then it’s time to say goodbye to the Argentinean gauchos, change luggage to the Chilean mules and then go down with our Chilean mail drivers to the thermal baths „Banos del Plomo“, where we set up our last camp, in the warm natural springs the tired muscles relax and celebrate the successful crossing of the Andes with a delicious Chilean BBQ.
Day 16: Termas del Plomo (2,900m) & Santiago de Chile
After a leisurely breakfast, we dismantle our camp, say goodbye to our Chilean mule drivers and drive back to civilization in Santiago de Chile through the beautiful Cajon del Maipo. On the way we stop at the turquoise Yeso reservoir, say goodbye to the Andes and stop in San Gabriel for the official entry into Chile. Once in Santiago we check in at the B&B in Providencia and the rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 17: Santiago de Chile
Breakfast, then we discover the interesting capital of Chile, wonderfully embedded between the coastal cordillera and the snow-capped peaks of the Andes, on an extensive city tour. From Providencia we take the cable car up to Cerro San Cristobal, which towers over the city and offers great views. We stroll through the surrounding park, taste a refreshing „Mote con Huesillo“ and drive back to the center with the gear wheel bath. Through the Parque Forestal it goes to the main market, where we have a delicious lunch and refresh ourselves for a tour of the old town. At the end of the tour we visit the beautifully landscaped park „Cerro Santa Lucia“, where our city tour ends. The rest of the evening is free.
Day 18: Vina del Mar
After breakfast we drive towards the Pacific coast to the elegant resort of Vina del Mar with its wonderful sandy beaches and many palm trees, where the day is at our leisure. In the evening we end the year with a great New Year’s Eve party including delicious dinner and unique New Year’s Eve fireworks, for which Vina del Mar is known throughout Chile.
Day 19: Vina del Mar
Today it is time to sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast and slowly start the day. At noon we drive to the charming neighboring town of Valparaiso with its many traditional, colorful houses, the many quaint pubs, the countless stairs, elevators, funiculars and the many hills. Valpariso is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has always cast a spell over many musicians and artists and will also delight you. In the evening we drive back to Vina del Mar for the final dinner.
Day 20: End of the tour – return flight
Unfortunately, even the most beautiful trip comes to an end at some point. After breakfast it is time to say goodbye before the transfer takes you back to the airport in Santiago de Chile, from where you will then return home. If someone else wants to make a connecting trip, we can alternatively take you to the terminal or to the center of Santiago.

Still unsure if you can meet these requirements? Better not classify yourself too high! Unfortunately, those who run to the limit all the time cannot fully enjoy the beauties of nature. You can best compare the pure walking times and the vertical gain meters to be mastered with tours that you have already done in the past.
Altitude
During the trekking days we will be continuously in high altitudes (3.000 to 4.400m) with significantly less oxygen in the air, which can cause high altitude problems in some cases. Symptoms can be headaches, dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite etc. In order to keep these risks at a minimum we have designed that we climb steady and slowly, always following the motto “Climb high – sleep low”.
Weather
Since Chile and Argentina are situated on the southern hemisphere, seasons are opposite to the European ones. The South American summer normally lasts from December to March and is characterized by almost daily blue skies, sunshine and daytime temperatures of up to 20 degrees in the Andes. However, temperatures can drop to -5 degrees at nighttime.
Trekking days
- We will camp on basic and natural campsites in the middle of the wild beauty of the Andes, without access to public toilets and showers (exception: Real de la Cruz).
- All our camps will be set up close to a river so that potable water is always available for drinking, cooking and washing.
- We provide professional and new 4-season MSR tents for 2 to 3 persons, which have to be set up by the group
- We will hike with a light daypack. A mule service is included for the Crossing of the Andes.
- Various wild streams have to be crossed on horseback during the Crossing of the Andes
- We will be accompanied by a professional cook during the Crossing of the Andes
- Temperatures can drop to -5 degrees at night
- Endurance, willpower and team spirit are indispensable
Additional information – important notice
Program and route changes are possible at any time during the tour due to the nature of our trips. Road conditions, sudden changes of the weather, bureaucratic arbitrariness, difficulties with public transport and many other influencing factors can cause that the planned itinerary can change.
